Our Little Itsy Bitsy Spider

0
Jonas was the cutest Itsy Bitsy Spider for Halloween! It wasn't long before he realized how to undo the velcro down the front of his costume and rip it off though. I did get a few photos before he did that AND before it started to rain. I've also determined that Jonas likes Reeses Peanut Butter Cups! :)

Click the photos to enlarge them.

Oh, and by the way, those are black leggings that he's wearing. I had to buy a two-pack of toddler girl leggings just to get a pair of black ones. The other pair (with silver hearts) went to his girlfriend, Evelyn.

Oh So Cute Undies

I'm sorry, but these are too freakin' adorable! I can't believe they make boxer briefs this tiny! Perhaps a preview of what's to come...

Motherhood

Oh my gosh! I just watched this trailer and cannot wait to see this movie!

In theaters October 23. Here's the website.

Toddler Bed Transition

1
Jonas has been getting his legs stuck in the bars of his crib from trying to climb out more and more often lately, so we took that as a sign that he is ready to transition to a toddler bed. Luckily the sides of his crib come off, so we decided to make a slow transition by removing just one of the 4 sides.

We knew this day was coming and I had fretted about how we would get him to stay in the bed after he got this new freedom. To my surprise, he's actually done very well. We took the approach of giving him the 'choice' to get up and then making adjustments with each 'getting-out-of-bed' violation. So for instance, the first time he climbed out of bed, he immediately turned on the lights (we knew this by watching him through the recently reinstalled video monitor). As a consequence, we disabled the light switch so he could no longer turn them on, then put him back in the bed. The next offense was him getting out of bed to play with his turtle night light that shines stars on the ceiling (VERY cool by the way). After that, we moved the turtle to higher ground. Each time we had to go in, we put him back in the bed and reminded him that it was bed time. The final offense (kinda like 3 strikes, you're out), which has only happened once, results in one of us sitting in the chair in his room as a deterrent for him getting out of bed. Jonathan did that on the second night.

The first night we just took the side of the crib off (not thinking that we may need something to keep him from rolling out of the bed!). He rolled out 3 times (oops!) - one time he didn't even wake up! He was much more restless though because he'd been congested and coughing. At around midnight we put the railing back up so we all could get some sleep! On day two we installed a little mesh barrier that allows him to get in and out of the bed, but keeps him from rolling out. That has been much better... lesson learned!

So the first night he got up 3 times, the second night 4 times, the third night 3 times, and the fourth night only once! We are trying to be consistent with the rules and so far, so good. He seems to know what is expected of him now. I also think it helps that he has always slept in a dark room with the door closed (with the exception of the turtle night light which is a recent addition).

What's crazy about all this is that ever since he's gained this new freedom, he has not climbed out of bed in the morning. He always waits until I come to get him. Amazing! I so worried about this transition, but so far he's taken to it pretty well. We are so proud of our little man!

Here are some photos from the first two nights. I took them with my phone, so I apologize for the poor quality.

UPDATE: Night 5 = 0 times getting out of bed! Woohoo!!

Wardrobe Malfunction #2

1
Jonas does not like long sleeves. He was calling me one morning from his crib and I went in to find him like this. The neck of his shirt slowly made its way down to his waist. Of course, this isn't the first time he's done it...Remember back in April?

Summertime Catchup - Pizza

0
PIZZA! Hands down, Jonas' favorite food. He asks for it regularly. Here we are at Fuel Pizza downtown after visiting one of my prints on display at The Light Factory.

Summertime Catchup - Ice Cream

0
Jonas has always, until recently, turned his nose up at ice cream. He is very particular about texture and temperature and ice cream was just too cold for him. Then one evening we went to Jason's Deli and it was all over. He REALLY enjoyed their soft serve chocolate cone.

Farewell

2
Rascal was aptly named. His 15 years on this earth were spent getting into everything he wasn't supposed to and barking at every animate and inanimate object that came into view. I remember that first Christmas... he had to go to the vet to have his stomach pumped because he had eaten more cat food than his puppy tummy could handle. Not long after that, I remember his run-in with a raccoon. He obviously won that fight since he never got rabies. Along the way there were run-ins with cats, cars, etc. and he always managed to come out on top. He may have bitten a few knees, using his 6in height to protect the house as best as he could. Even near the end, he was still getting into the kitchen trash causing his masters all kinds of grief as they cleaned it up. Despite all his rascal ways, Rascal will be missed. The past 15 years just wouldn't have been the same without you, Rascal. Tell Sandy hi. xoxo.

Day 44 - Project 50 (Runner-Up)

Reading with Mommy

1
I think that Jonas fully expects me to be able to read through him! Jonathan snapped these photos with my phone while I was trying to read "There was an old lady that swallowed a fly" from memory since I couldn't see the book at all!
